been captured by vampires

and I'm not afraid to admit it!

I know, I know ... I've been majorly MIA these past few months (eerily quiet for someone as loud as me!) but I have a good/lame excuse. Recently, been reading. Lots. Remarkably for the past six days straight! No cooking, no cleaning, no decoration take down and certainly no worthwhile human interactions. I've simply disappeared into some lovely light fiction and haven't regretted ONE moment of it!

My husband and kids have been extremely kind and indulgent to have let me "check out" like that and I'm eternally grateful to them. I guess, in a way, I really needed to get outside of my own life and be able to experience someone else's for a change (in spite of the criticisms I've heard from online sources). I was completely immersed and obsessed and only reluctantly took breaks when my wimpy body needed sustenance and sleep.

And yep, I read more than one: I read ALL four, in a row, non-stop, until I was done. And again ... no regrets.

But tomorrow, it's back to work, back to the grind, back into the drudgery of a time-laden routine. *sigh*

Maybe Spring Break has another series of all-absorbing books in store for me ... one can only hope and see!

It's something that needed to be done.

Big Rick gave me the most recent Richard Russo novel for Christmas. He, Rick is pissed because I'm only on line lately and don't buy stuff to read and then give to him to read.

My favorite author is Russo, try him. So, I'm fifty pages in. Goooood.

I've been thinking about trying that series - everyone says I'd like it. Glad you were able to find time like that away from the holiday madness. Best wishes for more reading marathons in 2009!

Also: Dave, recommendations please. Tell me - should I start from the beginning with Mohawk or start with the Pulitzer winner Empire Falls? Looking forward to reading...

Dave -
Awesome recommendation! I'm dying to check him out (and please let Hedy and I know which book would be best to start with)

Cheers and have fun reading!

Hedy -
As always, great to have you pop by! And yes, in spite of the "ye-ye" criticisms I "tried" to avoid while hunting down a pic for my blog, I thouroughly enjoyed the series. The way Stephanie wrote her characters and their conflict makes me imagine that she would be a lovely person to know (i.e. love and loyalty are the outstanding "flavors" in her book)

Highly recommended read!

First of all, I am WWWWAAAAYYYY jealous (does that adequately convey my jealousy??). I'd love to check out for a week and read. I'd read while lying in bed. I'd read while stretched out on the sofa. I'd read in the tub with a glass of wine at my side. Sigh... I think you know how much I love to read. It is so sad that I can only squeeze about 10 pages a night.

And, I gotta tell ya, I'm kind of turned off by the whole Twilight thing. It has gotten so much teen/tween hype....I can't get past the possibility that it is just some teen angst novel.
