two gears

I'm either in perpetual motion or in a dead stall (i.e., blog-reading or snoozing) and these extreme tendencies do not lend themselves very nicely to writing: Writing requires way more energy than I've got when I "stop".

So when the 15 y.o. comes up to me this morning and says, "Yo! Mom! I need another story. You need to post something new!" I just wanted to grab my cup of coffee and amble off to the deepest recesses of my house and take a mid-morning siesta. And the last thing I can wrap my head around (in my current state of torpor) is wrestling with word choice and the pithy placement of written ideas.

And to make matters worse, I do my best thinking when I'm doing something else ... like driving or gardening or running the vacuum ... and unfortunately, when I'm ready to type everything out, my brain goes idle.

My brain really has a mind of its own: It really frustrates the hell out of me.

"My brain really has a mind of its own"

?!?!

That must hurt.

YES!! It does! And it hurts my feelings when it refuses to let me in on its own self-serving little plans.

In a very existential way, I'd really like to believe that I was truly "calling the shots"! But alas, I'm not ... my lazy neurotransmitters are!!

Molly,

Start typing, stop, start, stop start, flow happens somewhere thougth the process.

Dave - I hear you and I truly believe you, but unfortunately when I walk away from and then try to return to a serendipitous writing flow, my mental mojo and the goal of coherence simply escapes me.

It's enough to make me seriously consider taking ADD meds!

Dear sister - my I reccomend employing a transcriber??? You could go along your day, talking into a recording device, capturing all those fabulous ideas and have someone else transcribe them later. Then, all you would need to do is edit. Dave's a lawyer. I'm sure he would agree it's the way to go....

A transcriber is somewhat unnecessary -- just get a digital recorder and then turn this into the Mollygras podcast...

Well, maybe a podcast isn't a bad idea. Just don't let it become like that "Kid In Brooklyn" thing. Very disturbing and annoying. DH loves it!

Try taking a shower. It's nothing personal. It works for me...something about the beating of water on your head...joggles the brain up. A podcast would be good too - although I wouldn't be able to hear it on my crap dial up. Pah!
Don't worry, your mental mojo will return soon.
