watching and waiting

My people down in Louisiana have battened down the hatches, gased up the vehicles, bought the TP, beer and milk and are bracing for the next "big one"!

I, on the other hand, am constantly checking my computer--weather.com and wbrz.com--for hourly updates, or I am on my cell phone keeping close tabs on my little huddled masses.

Gustav looks primed to affect my family more directly than either Katrina or Rita did three years ago.

And it's more than a little nerve-wracking not knowing how this thing is going to turn out.

A post from the front...

The kids are asleep...in the hallway. Loose items are up from the yard. I'm about done with my bottle of wine (hurricane party!!). There won't be any sleep tonight or tomorrow.

But, things will likely be okay, Big Sis!! The storm is not as strong as they thought. We are on the bad side - but, that's okay. We have water and food and each other!!! No Worries!! In all likelihood, we won't lose electricity!!! I'll call tomorrow!

Looks like a downgrade from a 3 to a 2 (YEAH!!) and what the BR news just reported, it doesn't seem that dire.

If you get this and can respond, I'll know you all are doing OK.

Thinking of ya'll and banking on the best outcome to occur.

xxooxx

So as of about 3:30 EDT it's a Cat 1. Probably safe for the family. Since I'm scheduled to be in NO in two weeks, I have a vested interest.

So which is it wine or daiquiris?

Dave -
N.O. is safe;however, my hometown of Baton Rouge didn't fare so well.

BTW - you won't be hearing from lil sis anytime soon ... they're expected to be w/o electricity for awhile as well as getting really rather intimate with a chainsaw over the next several days!
